FAQs

What if my installed Retrofit Alarm Kit is no longer working?

What do I need to install the Retrofit Alarm Kit in my home?

Retrofit Alarm Kit Installation:  You will need to have a Alarm Security Kit already set up at your location before our smart home technician can install the Retrofit Alarm Kit.

Retrofit Alarm Kit Installation + Multi Piece Alarm Security Kit Installation:  Our smart home technician can install your Alarm Security Kit and the Retrofit Alarm Kit.   Please ensure you have the Alarm Security Kit at your home including all parts and packaging.

Additionally, a compatible mobile device is required for setup.

Is my current alarm panel compatible with the Retrofit Alarm Kit?

To see if the Retrofit Alarm Kit will work with the contact sensor zones wired to your current alarm panel, our smart home technician will verify the resistance on your zones. We will check your alarm panel and documentation to confirm your compatibility.

The Retrofit Alarm Kit design supports a maximum resistance of 5200 ohms under all conditions of temperature, battery, etc. This is intended to tolerate 4.7K, 1K or 2K end of line resistors commonly found in wired systems. 500 Ft of wire also adds about 12 ohms which is not significant.

How many zones can I connect to the Retrofit Alarm Kit?

You can wire up to 8 zones with one Retrofit Alarm Kit. If you have more than 8 zones, you can add additional Retrofit Alarm Kit devices to the same alarm.

Will OnTech test my Retrofit Alarm System and show me how to use it?

Yes, as part of our service guarantee your OnTech technician will show you how to use your Retrofit Alarm System and test the system to ensure flawless operation. After we have completed your installation, our smart home technician will test the system by arming and disarming your alarm. We will show you how to adjust your entry and exit delays, and help customize settings for wired sensors within the app if applicable.
