FAQ

FAQ

What is the benefit of the Nest Learning Thermostat?

The Nest Learning Thermostat is a smart thermostat that learns your schedule and preferred temperature settings to help you save energy and money. It can be controlled remotely from your phone or tablet, and it can also be integrated with other smart home devices such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Does the Nest Learning Thermostat save money?

On average, the Nest Learning Thermostat saves 10% to 12% on heating and 15% on cooling – an average savings of $131 to $145 a year. In many households, a lot of energy is wasted heating or cooling the home when nobody's there.

Does Nest Thermostat automatically switch between heat and cool?

Your thermostat will automatically switch your system between heating and cooling as needed to meet any scheduled temperatures or a temperature that you've manually selected. This mode is useful for climates that consistently require both heating and cooling on the same day.

Google Nest Learning Thermostat

The Google Nest Learning Thermostat learns the temperatures you like and creates a custom schedule for your home. Nest automatically turns itself down after you leave so you’re not heating or cooling an empty home. With the Nest app or the Google Home app, you can control your thermostat from wherever you are. Or use a compatible speaker or display to change the temperature with a single voice command.

Yes, a functioning thermostat is required in order for OnTech to install a smart thermostat.

Can OnTech install multiple Smart Thermostats?

OnTech can install multiple smart thermostats if your existing zoned system is capable of handling multiple thermostats.

Are Nest thermostats compatible with 'zoned' HVAC systems?

If you have more than one thermostat in your home, you have a zoned system. In zoned systems, each thermostat controls heating and cooling independently in order to heat or cool different areas of the house. Thermostats in zoned systems can control the same heating and cooling system or each thermostat can control its own system. When multiple thermostats control one system, dampers in the ductwork open and close to heat or cool specific zones of the house.
Generally speaking, Nest thermostats are compatible with zoned systems panels. However, if your thermostat uses proprietary wires like Damp, OPN, or CLS to control dampers or zones, your system may not be compatible. Also, some zoned systems are configured with a “primary” thermostat and a “secondary” thermostat, where the “primary” thermostat controls some or all functions of the “secondary” thermostat. These types of systems may not be compatible with Nest thermostats.
