Matter: The Foundation for Connected Things

The smart devices, phones and tablets in our homes all speak a different language. But what if there was a way to change that, so all devices could communicate with each other? Matter - a unifying, IP-based connectivity protocol - does just that. Using Matter’s common language, connections between objects become more reliable, secure and seamless, today and tomorrow.

“Smart home devices should be secure, reliable, and seamless to use. And with Matter, they are.” - Connectivity Standards Alliance

One Protocol. Endless Impact.

Simplicity: Simplify purchase and setup for an out-of-box experience

Compatibility: Matter-certified devices from any brand work seamlessly together

Security: Robust security practices and protocols for developers and users

Matter has taken an open-source approach to their connectivity protocol, meaning that contributors from Google, Amazon, Apple and other smart home technologies are developing and implementing Matter’s protocol collaboratively. This accelerates the development and results in higher quality implementation.

IP-based services aim to provide consumers anytime-anywhere access to content over a range of electronic devices and to integrate services and content. To tie them together. With this approach, Matter makes it easier for device manufacturers to build devices that are secure and compatible with other brands such as Google, Amazon, Apple and more. Matter will support WiFi for core, operational communication and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for device commissioning.
